Phantom Blade Zero Cast: Donnie Yen & the Kungfu Cinema Team
The marquee name is Donnie Yen — creative consultant and the face of Mó Yuan — alongside action director Kenji Tanigaki. Here is every confirmed name behind the game.
Fact-checked September 9, 2026
Phantom Blade Zero's combat exists because film people built it — the moves are demonstrated by a kungfu cinema veteran, then handcrafted by animators.
Donnie Yen — creative consultant & Mó Yuan
Confirmed at the August 17, 2026 State of Play: Donnie Yen contributes his likeness, facial and motion capture to Mó Yuan, and serves as creative consultant — "bringing the essence of kung fu cinema into your hands," per the official PlayStation Blog. His involvement bridges the game and the genre's film tradition (from Ip Man to John Wick: Chapter 4, which the studio itself cites as the lineage it draws from).
Kenji Tanigaki — action director
The studio's 2023 PlayStation Blog introduction named Kenji Tanigaki as action director — the choreographer behind many classic kungfu movie fight scenes. His role: demonstrate each designed move, captured with a camera matrix as reference for the animation team. The combat moves are then handcrafted in animation, because motion capture alone "can't do it justice." That is why every technique reads like choreography — see the combat system for what it produces.

The franchise context
S-GAME's history is its own story: founder Soulframe Liang's RPG Maker original Rainblood: Town of Death (2010) grew into the Phantom Blade franchise — mostly mobile titles that built a 20-million-player fan base in China. Phantom Blade Zero is the franchise's console-scale rebirth, on Unreal Engine 5. More on the game's shape in the overview; the man who starts it all in the story is on the characters page.
